Senator Johnson stuck to his talking points in an interview on MSNBC, ducking and dodging Chuck Todd’s questions on Donald Trump. Asked repeatedly about his support for “The Donald,” Johnson responded that he was focused on “areas of agreement,” with the presumptive Republican nominee. One such area of agreement: refusing to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court until Donald Trump can pick a justice.
In fact, over the course of two minutes, Robot Ron said he was looking “for areas of agreement” six times. Clearly the Senator memorized his talking points. But Robot Ron did manage to come alive at the end of the interview. When asked about concerns that Trump’s racist, sexist, and xenophobic candidacy might sink other Washington Republicans like himself, Johnson said, “hope springs eternal.”
For his classic Washington duck on “Meet thePress” Johnson earns another duck.
