The following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin LGBT Caucus Chair Frank Long with regards to the news that President Donald Trump will ban transgender Americans from serving their country as part of the U.S. Military:
“I have great respect and admiration for those in the transgender community who love this country and choose to join the U.S. Military to bravely defend our freedoms. The desire to serve your country shouldn’t hinge on your gender identity. Those who defend our right to live freely should be able to serve freely.
“At this moment, around the globe, brave transgender service members are protecting the American people — including the President and Vice President — and our American values of liberty and equality for all. The Democratic Party will continue to stand with the transgender community and we will fight this administration’s bigotry tooth-and-nail.”
