Vukmir: Kevin Nicholson “Clearly Doesn’t Understand Wisconsin,” “Grassroots”

MADISON — So much for the Republican Party of Wisconsin’s Kevin Nicholson-Leah Vukmir “unity” pledge

VUKMIR: “My primary opponent [Kevin Nicholson] clearly doesn’t understand Wisconsin, and doesn’t understand Wisconsin grassroots…Republicans in our state are not establishment Republicans, we’re activist Republicans…His statement shows a bit of misunderstanding of Wisconsin and Wisconsin politics…I think it was insulting to the very people who have stood with us…”

And here’s the Nicholson campaign’s response, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Nicholson campaign spokesman Brandon Moody didn’t back down.

In a statement, he said that “the political establishment in the Madison bubble is trying to rig the game for their pal state Senator Vukmir. And by doing so in such a blatant fashion, they are diminishing the effectiveness of the Republican Party overall. Republican activists should be offended, frankly, at the overt attempt to protect someone who can’t win in November.” … “He didn’t ask their permission to run, and that offends them. Frankly, Kevin is going to be the nominee because voters want an outsider who refuses to bow down to the political class whether it’s in Madison or DC.”

Yikes. It looks like Nicholson won’t be shaking hands with Alex Walker anytime soon after all.

“Kevin Nicholson is alienating just about every Republican in Wisconsin because he’s relying on Illinois billionaire Dick Uihlein to keep spending millions and buy him this U.S. Senate election,” said Brad Bainum, Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson for the 2018 Senate race“Vukmir and Nicholson would rather talk about anything but their shared commitment to a reckless, right-wing agenda that includes taking health care away from up to 30 million Americans and gutting Wisconsinites’ Social Security and Medicare benefits.”
