VP Harris, Biden Admin Officials Visit Wisconsin to Celebrate Clean Water Funding
MADISON, Wis. – Yesterday, Vice President Harris visited Milwaukee to highlight how the Biden-Harris administration is delivering clean water for Wisconsin. President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law makes the largest investment in water in U.S. history – with Wisconsin receiving $841 million over the next five years for clean water projects.
Vice President Harris and EPA Administrator Michael Regan spoke with local leaders, activists, and union workers who are on the front lines of Wisconsin’s clean water efforts. Preceding the visit, White House Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy spoke exclusively with Wisconsin’s News 8 Now about the administration’s plan to remove the state’s lead pipes.
Clean drinking water has been a longstanding priority for Democrats across the state, including Gov. Tony Evers, who delivered this critical investment – even while Republicans in the state legislature have made a habit of blocking clean water funding in both the state budget and federal legislation.
Leaders from across Wisconsin applauded the Vice President and Biden administration’s commitment to Wisconsin:
Senator Tammy Baldwin: “Thanks to @POTUS, @VP and @EPAMichaelRegan for their commitment to supporting Wisconsin with the federal investments local communities need to replace dangerous lead pipes and provide safe and clean drinking water to everyone across the Badger State.” [01/24/22]
Representative Gwen Moore: “The bipartisan infrastructure law will give Milwaukee vital federal funds to keep children and communities safe by removing lead pipes, which will also create jobs in impacted neighborhoods. I’m honored to welcome @VP Harris and @EPAMichaelRegan to Milwaukee and am looking forward to discussing the impact of these investments.” [01/24/22]
Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale: “The Biden-Harris Admin and the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act are delivering a win-win for job creation, economic growth & doing the right thing for the health and safety of WI families by spearheading the movement to replace lead service lines and improve water quality.” [01/24/22]
