ICYMI: Dr. Biden’s Trip to Wisconsin Highlights A+ Leadership From White House
MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visited Milwaukee to discuss the importance of a safe return to schools. As a teacher for nearly 30 years, Dr. Biden spoke about the value of in-person learning and the work that President Biden, Gov. Evers, and Democrats in Congress have done to keep students and teachers safe as they return to the classroom.
During the event, Dr. Biden also discussed how President Biden’s American Rescue Plan continues to deliver for Wisconsin’s parents, children, teachers, and schools, highlighting the third round of payments from President Biden’s expanded Child Tax Credit hitting parents’ bank accounts this week.

As the third round of payments from President Biden’s expanded child tax cut hit bank accounts Wednesday, the First Lady touted her husband’s efforts to help kids and schools.
“The American Rescue Plan increases access to broadband and tech devices, creates additional learning opportunities outside of the classroom, and provides more mental health support,” Biden said.
Biden praised the American Rescue Plan Act, a federal relief package passed in March, saying the funds it provided would help cover the supplies schools need to minimize disease spread and help students recover academically from a year and a half of disruptions to their education. American Rescue Plan Act funds are still in the process of being allocated and distributed to Wisconsin schools, but funds from earlier relief bills have helped cover the costs of masks, hand sanitizer, indoor air filters and curriculum materials.
Biden said she’ll take parents’ concerns and personal stories back to the White House.
“I see how committed you all are, the mothers, the fathers, the great-grandmothers…to help our kids get through this difficult time,” she said. “I really appreciate your time here today to come here, to share your stories, and I’ll take them back.”

Parents expressed appreciation for their children’s teachers, even as they talked about how stressful it was to manage at-home learning during the pandemic. “You’re unified, that’s the important thing,” said Biden. She plugged the American Rescue Plan Act which has provided billions of dollars in aid to schools across the country to help them recover from the pandemic, and asked if those funds had been helpful in Milwaukee.
She described teaching as a “24/7 job” and promised to take parents’ and teachers’ concerns back to her husband, President Joe Biden. “Your children matter to me. And they matter to the president,” she said.
“We owe them a promise that we will do all that we can to keep their schools open and as safe as possible,” Biden added. “And we owe them unity so we can fight the virus and not each other.”
