Trump Campaign Launch Threatened by Broken Promises
"Wisconsinites will hold Trump accountable for what he's done to our state" -- DPW Chair Ben Wikler
MADISON -- Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler responded to Trump's reelection campaign launch today:
“Here in Wisconsin, Trump’s record is an unbroken string of shocking failures and broken promises. Trump has tried to take our health care, he’s fleeced the public to give tax breaks to his wealthy friends, and he’s fanned fears and divided people to distract us from the truth—that Trump cares only about himself.
“While President Trump repeats his hollow promises over the next 17 months, Wisconsin voters will know that his word is worthless. And on November 3, 2020, Wisconsinites will hold Trump accountable for what he’s done to our state.”
- Trump promised Wisconsin voters in 2016 that his health care system would be “so much better and so much less expensive” than the Affordable Care Act, but his numerous attempts to sabotage the ACA jeopardized health care coverage for the 2.4 million Wisconsinites who live with a pre-existing condition and spiked the cost of premiums in Wisconsin by 36% in 2018. Even after Republicans’ loss of the House in 2018, Trump continues to suggest that he will do away with the Affordable Care Act if re-elected.
- During his run for President in 2016, Trump promised Wisconsinites he would “substantially” lower their taxes when in reality, the GOP-Trump tax plan passed in 2017 will actually increase lower- and middle-class Wisconsinites’ tax burden by 2027. The top 1% of Wisconsin taxpayers are expected to receive 28% of tax cuts in 2019 under Trump’s plan.
