Tim Michels: Increasing Education Funding is “The Definition of Insanity”

MADISON, Wis. – While Governor Evers has worked to properly fund and rebuild Wisconsin’s public education system after years of attacks by the previous administration, Tim Michels wants to undo those investments and do all he can to move schools backwards.

Michels’ radical agenda would defund neighborhood public schools and use taxpayer money to fund unaccountable private schools. He doubled down on that promise during a GOP primary debate when he called the continued funding of public education “the definition of insanity.” Michels even said he would consider abolishing Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction.

It’s no surprise that Michels is out of touch with the needs and wants of parents on this since he has not attended a school board meeting in his town in the past year. Not only has Michels failed to even attend a local school board meeting, he now wants to politicize classrooms by inviting parents to sue schools.

Gov. Evers has never stopped supporting public schools. As a lifelong educator, Gov. Evers has worked to make historic investments into Wisconsin’s schools and has a plan to build on the successes of his first four years in office. Thanks to the governor’s leadership, our schools are ranked in the top ten in the nation.

“Tim Michels’ radical agenda shows that he does not support schools, he does not support parents, and he does not support students,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Hannah Menchhoff. “Michels’ plan to defund public education is ‘insanity’ and will hurt our kids. Gov. Evers is a proven leader on education who will always do the right thing for our schools.”
