Tim Michels: “I’m not gonna soften my stance on abortion.”

Michels Has Donated to Groups That Want to Ban Abortion Without Exceptions, Oppose Contraception, IVF, and Fertility Treatments, Track Women Using Cell Phone Data, And Harass Them On Sidewalks Outside Abortion Clinics

MADISON, Wis. — Tim Michels has confirmed that his views on abortion are as extreme as they come — and he’s not backing down from his extremist stance, ever. Following reports that Michels has financially supported groups like Pro-Life Wisconsin and Wisconsin Right to Life that are lobbying to keep the1849 abortion ban in place, which does not provide exceptions for rape or incest, Michels has doubled down on his radical views and even made threats against the media.

At a campaign event, Michels recently underscored how divisive and radical he would be as governor.

“Yeah so the question was about abortion. I’ve been getting hammered on abortion, ‘I’m a radical.’ They got these 15 second ads running all the way. I’ll just say a little insight here, you’d be amazed at the people that have called me up. I won’t give you their names but you you know their names, that said ‘Tim you have to soften your stance on abortion. You need to be for the exception of rape and incest as well.’  And I’m principled […], I’m not gonna soften my stance on abortion.”

Previously, Michels has said the 1849 ban on abortion that doesn’t include exceptions for rape or incest is “an exact mirror” of his position. In the audio, Michels acknowledged that he previously also opposed an exception to save the life of the mother, and said he would hold his extreme views “until the bitter end.”

His stance is far more extreme than that of the majority of Wisconsinites. The latest Marquette poll showed that not only do 65% of Wisconsinites believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases, but that 79% of Republicans also agree that abortion should be legal in cases of rape or incest.

“Tim Michels’ abortion agenda is not only radical and extreme, it is deeply unpopular with Wisconsinites – and he does not care,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Hannah Menchhoff. “Abortions are incredibly difficult and personal decisions for those who have to make them. The freedom to make your own decisions about your healthcare will be taken away if Michels becomes governor. And now he’s made clear his extreme views will never soften, no matter how unpopular they are.”
