Have You Seen This Man?

Missing: Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Tim Michels

MADISON, Wis. – While Governor Evers is meeting with voters across the state this week, the divisive Republican gubernatorial candidate, Tim Michels, seems to be hiding from the press and from Wisconsinites just over 24 hours after his nomination.

One thing is certain: Michels is already trying to hide from his radical past. Yesterday, he briefly scrubbed his website of any mention of an endorsement from Donald Trump, and when he was caught trying to hide his radical record from Wisconsinites, Michels put the Trump endorsement back on his website.

There’s no getting away from Michels’ work these last few months to pander to the extremist wing of the Republican party.

Since Michels’ campaign for governor began he has: said the 1849 ban on abortion that doesn’t include exceptions for rape or incest is “an exact mirror” of his position; confirmed that he still believes in restricting the rights of LGBTQ Wisconsinites, as he did in 2004; called continuing to increase education funding the “definition of insanity”; opposed a bipartisan package of reforms that included background checks for people under 21 purchasing guns; and, said that “everything will be on the table” when it comes to decertifying the 2020 election.

While Michels spent his first day of the general election cowering from the press and Wisconsin’s voters, Governor Evers, lieutenant governor nominee Sara Rodriguez, and the statewide Democratic ticket spent the day meeting with Wisconsinites all across the state.

“Tim Michels dodges the press when he doesn’t know how to hide his radical positions,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Hannah Menchhoff. “He has already staked himself as the MAGA candidate and there is no coming back from that. It’s simple: Tim Michels is radical and wrong for Wisconsin.”
