Tim Michels Wants to Defund Public Education in Wisconsin

Michels Calls Investments in Public Schools “The Definition of Insanity”

MADISON, Wis. — At Sunday’s dumpster fire GOP gubernatorial debate, Tim Michels indicated that he would defund public education, calling continued investments in public education “the definition of insanity.”

At the debate he said: “There’s no greater investment than the future generations of Wisconsin, the problem there is we’re already throwing so much money at education. That’s been the fix, if you will, for the last 10, or 20, or 30 years, more money on education, more money on education, and it’s not working. The definition of insanity.”

He also doubled down on support of “universal school choice,” which would redirect funding from public schools to unaccountable private institutions.

If elected, Michels also plans to invite parents to sue schools, and he’s previously admitted that he had not been to a school board meeting in his district in the last year.

Since Tim Michels doesn’t attend school board meetings and hasn’t lived full-time in Wisconsin for a decade, we’ll refresh his memory: Wisconsin’s schools are now ranked top ten in the nation.

“Tim Michels wants to further divide communities and leave working families out to dry with his extremist education agenda,” said Democratic Party Rapid Response Director Hannah Menchhoff. “Michels wants to take resources away from our neighborhood public schools and let parents sue schools — that’s the real definition of insanity. Gov. Evers will always do the right thing for kids, parents, and teachers by working to bring people together, not tear them apart.”
