Democratic Party of Wisconsin on President Biden’s 2024 Reelection Announcement

MADISON, Wis. — Today, President Joe Biden announced his campaign for a second term as President of the United States. Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler issued the following statement:

“There is no path to the White House without Wisconsin, and here in Wisconsin, Democrats are fired up and united in an all-out push to reelect President Joe Biden. We’re thrilled that President Biden and Vice President Harris are running for a second term, and we can’t wait to celebrate their victory. This is a battle, once again, for the soul of America—from the freedom to control our own bodies to the freedom to live, with dignity, safety, and opportunity, in a democracy.

“The Biden-Harris administration’s record speaks to their values and their ability to deliver. On day one, President Biden went to work to repair the damage done by the previous administration’s catastrophic mismanagement of a global pandemic, and to rebuild our economy from the bottom up and the middle out. Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, America was able to get more than 500 million shots in arms, while historic economic relief delivered an unprecedented economic recovery that has resulted in some of the lowest unemployment rates in a half century—including the lowest unemployment rate ever recorded in Wisconsin, with more than 100,000 jobs in Wisconsin added in just the last three years. The Biden economic agenda is working for Wisconsin, with more than $4 billion in investments committed to our state by private businesses since 2021, bringing family-supporting jobs to communities across the state.

“Under President Biden’s leadership, America has made once-in-a-generation investments in its infrastructure and the fight against climate change thanks to the landmark Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act. Thanks to this leadership from the Biden-Harris Administration, more than 1.1 million Wisconsinites with Medicare will benefit from new initiatives to cap out-of-pocket costs, cap the price of insulin at $35 a month, and enable Medicare to negotiate drug prices for the first time in our history.. Clean energy investments are strengthening our national security, creating jobs, and moving us forward in the fight against the existential threat of a changing climate. More than $2.9 billion in new investments have already been committed to Wisconsin projects that will repair the roads, bridges, airports, and ports that our economy depends on.

“Each election is a choice, and even in these opening days of the 2024 campaign, the choice could not be more clear. President Biden and Vice President Harris are committed to the work of building a better America, while MAGA extremists have maintained a rabid focus on attacking our democracy and restricting reproductive freedom through new national bans on abortion. There can be no doubt that no matter who the GOP nominee is, they will pursue the same extreme partisan politics we have seen in election after election, here in Wisconsin and across the country.

“We’ve got 560 days until November 5, 2024. Wisconsin is poised to be the pivotal state in the next election—just like it’s been pivotal in the last two presidential elections—and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is fully behind President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. We never stopped organizing after President Biden’s victory in 2020—our year-round statewide program helped to deliver victories for Governor Evers in 2022 and flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2023. Our work to ensure another Wisconsin win for President Biden and Vice President Harris has already begun.”
