After Voting for Tariffs that Bankrupted Farmers and Slashing Food Aid, Tom Tiffany Promises, “No Farmers. No Food. No Future.”
MADISON, Wis. — This National Agriculture week, GOP candidate for governor Tom Tiffany celebrated with a post that said “No Farmers. No Food. No Future.” Ironically, the statement is a perfect summary of Tiffany’s own agenda. In Congress, he voted for tariff taxes that bankrupt Wisconsin farmers and cost them billions of dollars. Tiffany also voted for the largest SNAP cuts in the program’s history, which deny veterans, children, the elderly, and disabled Wisconsinites access to Wisconsin-produced food. Tom Tiffany’s approved SNAP cuts also excluded farmers from yet another market and caused their revenue to plummet.
“Tom Tiffany has done immense harm to farmers in Congress by signing off on tariff taxes and forcing farmers to face skyrocketing operating costs with no relief. Tiffany’s career is branded by his work to bankrupt Wisconsin family farms and deny food from hungry families,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Emily Stuckey. “Tiffany is so deeply out of touch with Wisconsin farmers that he can’t even see the crisis he created. Clearly, he is not the future of Wisconsin.”
Read below for more on Tom Tiffany’s war on Wisconsin farmers:
- Tiffany’s tariff policies have cost Wisconsin farmers billions in taxes, operating costs and lost revenue.
- Wisconsin farm bankruptcies have risen from two in 2024 to 16 in 2025, marking one of the highest spikes in the nation.
- Tiffany supported Trump’s trade war with China that resulted in Wisconsin soybean farmers being cut out of global markets, irreparably damaging relationships and sales.
- Tom Tiffany voted for the Big Ugly Bill which he enthusiastically supported, saying it was a “game changer” for America. The bill was the largest cut to SNAP in the program’s history.
- Over 700,000 Wisconsinites receive SNAP benefits—60% are households with children and 38% are households with at least one member that is elderly or disabled.
- Tiffany has celebrated Ron Johnson’s attempts at greater cuts in the Big Ugly Bill, saying “Go, Ron, go” and that Republicans must “push every single opportunity” for cuts.
