ICYMI: Governor Evers on WTMJ’s Political Power Hour: GOP “Are Trying to Pull a Fast One” with Two Constitutional Amendments
MADISON, Wis. — Today, Governor Tony Evers joined Steve Scaffidi on WTMJ’s Political Power Hour to urge voters to reject legislative Republicans’ power grab and vote NO on the August 13 ballot questions.
Gov. Evers spoke about how quick action during the COVID-19 pandemic saved lives and helped our communities rebuild—and how Republicans in the Legislature took a 300-day vacation as the virus surged across the state. These misleading GOP amendments would enable these same Republican politicians to bottleneck critical federal aid in times of need, preventing governors from being able to quickly respond to emergencies in the future.
Hear more from Gov. Evers on why Wisconsinites should reject the GOP’s power grab on August 13:
“Clearly, [legislative Republicans] are trying to pull a fast one….” said Governor Tony Evers. “If you think about it, during the pandemic, if we would have waited for them to come into session—they were out of session for 300 days—there are things that had to be done, had to be done. And that is exactly what would be taken away with these two amendments.”
