NEW: More Wisconsinites Have Health Insurance Than Ever Before Thanks to President Biden and Democrats

MADISON, Wis. — Today, federal health officials announced a record 20 million Americans—including more than 250,000 Wisconsinites—signed up for health insurance in 2023 under the Affordable Care Act. More Americans have quality health care than ever before, and millions more are saving money on prescription drugs and health insurance thanks to leadership from President Biden, Vice President Harris, Senator Tammy Baldwin, and Democrats.

But while President Biden is bringing down costs and expanding access to health care, Donald Trump wants to take that quality, affordable care away.

If Donald Trump has his way, he would gut health insurance for tens of millions of Americans, threaten coverage for people with preexisting conditions, and send costs skyrocketing,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund. “Hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites have access to affordable health coverage thanks to the Affordable Care Act, and Trump’s pursuit of a repeal of this lifesaving law is downright dangerous. While Republicans and Donald Trump continue trying to gut lifesaving policies, Democrats and President Biden are fighting to make health care more affordable and accessible for all Wisconsinites.”

Here’s how Donald Trump’s Affordable Care Act repeal would hurt Wisconsin:

  • If Republicans and Donald Trump succeeded in repealing the ACA, 40 million Americans—and over 250,000 Wisconsinites—could lose their health care coverage.
  • Donald Trump’s plan to “terminate” the ACA would rip away protections for the over 800,000 Wisconsinites with preexisting conditions, allowing insurance companies to deny basic care like hospital visits and prescription drugs.
  • 1.2 million Wisconsin Medicare beneficiaries would face higher costs and disruptions to their care if the ACA were repealed.
