On 16th Affordable Care Act Anniversary, WisDems Chair Calls Out Wisconsin GOP for Crushing Health Care in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. —  Today marks the 16th anniversary of passage of the Affordable Care Act, a Democrat-led effort to provide healthcare to millions of Americans, which over 313,000 Wisconsinites rely on to afford essential care. In response to the anniversary of the passage of this historic legislation, WisDems Chair Devin Remiker released the following statement:

“Wisconsin Republicans, alongside Donald Trump, have unleashed a health care crisis in Wisconsin,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Devin Remiker. “Republicans like Tom Tiffany, Bryan Steil, and Derrick Van Orden find every opportunity to strip protections from the Affordable Care Act to rubber-stamp legislation that increases healthcare costs and limits access to quality care for Wisconsinites. Their actions have repeatedly shown that they care more about tax cuts for billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos than actually helping their constituents in D.C.”

The ACA changed the lives and futures for millions of Americans, and yet Tom Tiffany, Bryan Steil, and Derrick Van Orden refused to extend the lifesaving ACA enhanced tax credits before they expired, which led to thousands of Wisconsinites facing no other choice but to drop their health care coverage after seeing their premium prices skyrocket.

Additionally, by signing Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, Wisconsin Republicans put 3 rural hospitals at risk of closure in Wisconsin and left 270,000 Wisconsinites at risk of losing their health care.
