Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is: Governor Evers Funds Education, Supports Homeowners as Dysfunctional Republicans Refuse to Fund Schools
MADISON, Wis. — Today, Governor Evers announced that he will push for property tax relief for Wisconsinites. Republicans like Tiffany have repeatedly refused to fund public education in the regular budget, and for years communities have been left with no other choice but to go to referendum to support their schools—driving up property taxes. Democrats have warned Republicans time and time again that leaving schools underfunded would raise property taxes and now, Governor Evers is breaking the cycle and standing up for hardworking Wisconsinites to make life more affordable amid the GOP economic crisis.
“Republicans are taking tax dollars from Wisconsinites, refusing to pay for public education out of the budget and expecting taxpayers to pick up the tab at the local level,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Emily Stuckey. “Wisconsin Republicans are deeply dysfunctional and taxpayers are paying the price for their double-dipping while Governor Evers and Wisconsin Democrats stand firm in their fight for fully funded public education and relief for taxpayers.”
