Tim Michels Is Radical And Wrong On Elections

MADISON, Wis. — Republican candidate for governor Tim Michels has repeatedly cast doubt on election outcomes in Wisconsin, choosing to pander to the ultra-MAGA base and Donald Trump instead of protecting democracy and Wisconsinites’ right to vote.

When it comes to protecting the right to vote in Wisconsin, Michels cannot be trusted to do the right thing. He has said that illegally decertifying the 2020 presidential election will be “on the table” if he becomes governor, has refused to commit to accepting the results of his own election, and wouldn’t say whether he would certify the 2024 election – something the governor is required to do by law.

Michels would rather appease and stay in the good graces of the disgraced former president than protect our democracy. He said that “maybe” the 2020 election was stolen, that “President Trump probably would be president right now if we had election integrity” and that he doesn’t think Trump “did anything wrong” on January 6.

Governor Evers has worked to protect Wisconsinites’ right to vote by vetoing every Republican-led bill that would have made it more difficult for Wisconsinites to cast their ballots. The right of every eligible voter to participate in our elections is not a partisan issue, and Gov. Evers is committed to protecting this fundamental right.

“Tim Michels has told us time and again that he will not stand up for democracy or protect Wisconsinites’ right to vote,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Hannah Menchhoff. “His rhetoric has one intended purpose – to undermine our elections and democracy so that if Michels doesn’t get the outcome he wanted, he can overturn the will of the people and put his radical allies in power.”
