Too Little, Too Late: Trump’s Tariff Bail Out

Since Trump took office, at least 14 family farms in Wisconsin have filed for Chapter 12 bankruptcy

MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, Donald Trump tried to cover-up the consequences of his tariff taxes and the impact they are having on farmers by announcing a $12 billion bailout. But the attempt is too little, too late as at least fourteen family farms in Wisconsin alone have filed for Chapter 12 bankruptcy since Trump took office, and nationally, farmer bankruptcies have climbed 50% compared to 2024. Despite this, GOP members of Congress, including Derrick Van Orden, Tom Tiffany, and Bryan Steil, continue to support the tariff taxes, and did nothing to fight back against a $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

“This $12 billion bailout is like putting a Band-Aid over a broken leg and does nothing to make our farmers whole,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Philip Shulman. “While our farmers continue to get hammered by the GOP’s tariff taxes, it’s clear that, as long as Trump tells them to do so, Republicans will continue to support these farm-killing policies.”
