Van Orden Tweets 263 Times in One Week But Can’t Find Time To Meet With Constituents
MADISON, Wis. — From Monday, August 11th to Sunday, August 17th, WI-03 Rep. Derrick Van Orden tweeted a whopping 263 times. While his Democratic colleagues are spending their time away from Congress meeting with constituents, Van Orden has been firing off an average of over 37 tweets a day. Many of these ramblings consist of praising the destructive Big Ugly Bill – which could rip health care away from over 30,000 of his constituents — and bullying his colleagues.
“Derrick Van Orden knows his constituents are pissed at his vote to screw them over in the Big Ugly Bill, so he is taking the easy way out, hiding behind a keyboard rather than meeting them face to face,”said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Spokesperson Philip Shulman. “If Van Orden can find the time to tweet 263 times in a week it really makes you wonder why he can’t find an hour to hold an in-person town hall with his constituents.”
Derrick Van Orden recently came under fire last month after he tweeted “YES!” in response to Americans losing health care and food security. In response, WisDems launched a billboard campaign in Western Wisconsin, featuring the tweet in an effort to hold Van Orden accountable. Earlier this month, they also set up a fundraising page, encouraging voters to donate $1 every time Van Orden tweets.
