WHINE WEDNESDAY: Van Orden’s Twitter Use Wrapped

Welcome to Whine Wednesday with Derrick Van Orden, America’s fiercest keyboard warrior. We comb through the hundreds of tweets DVO posts during a week so you don’t have to. Grab a glass and join us for the second edition of Whine Wednesday!

MADISON, Wis. — Van Orden has had quite the head-spinning week as evidenced by his 187 tweets (almost twice the amount from our last newsletter). From lying about his record to some unfortunate typos, you can find all the highlights (or lowlights) of Van Orden’s online presence this past week below.

Don’t Drink and Tweet Kids: “Kline” Hall

As Van Orden tries to prove to himself that he is a good person that cares about veterans on Twitter, he cannot even correctly spell the home for unhoused veterans that closed in his district. Klein hall closed due to Van Orden’s refusal to secure funds for the home, forcing longtime veterans to scramble for housing. He can’t even keep his own record straight—spelling it “Kline” on his Twitter while lying about his record.

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO …. Derrick Van Orden in his role of pretending to care about farmers during Ag Week

The Oscars were this weekend, and the biggest snub of the night was Van Orden’s lack of a Best Actor nomination for his performance of pretending to care about Wisconsin’s agricultural community during Ag Week. While he continues to post about how farmers are the backbone of our state and that he supports them, his record in Congress proves otherwise.

From slashing SNAP benefits that farmers rely on for food purchases, to supporting cost-raising tariffs that are increasing the price of everything from farm equipment and harming trade relationships, to failing to pass a competent farm bill — Van Orden’s act is just that: An act. A persona he hides behind to distract from his failures to the people of WI-03.

DVO’S DADDY OF THE WEEK: Sean Duffy

Van Orden is rolling out a parade of Trump administration officials to campaign for him in WI-03… in March? That’s one sign of panic! He recently brought Sean Duffy to Sparta to try to brag about infrastructure investments, but parading around the Transportation Secretary while gas prices are soaring is certainly… a choice.

It’s an especially interesting move given the ongoing drama in the 7th Congressional District race, where Duffy’s nepo baby son-in-law, Michael Alfonso, has become a central figure.

(Seriously, if you’re looking for quality entertainment, keep an eye on the 7th CD primary or, as it’s better known: The Real Housewives of Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. You’ll be able to watch Michael Alfonso and “journalist” Jessica McBride fight for center cheesehead.)

AI SLOP: Van Orden cares about AI generated families, but not the real ones

On a more serious note, this week Van Orden responded to an AI-generated video of a child crying over a fallen soldier. While the video would be heartbreaking if it were real – and reflects the very real pain families experience when they lose a loved one to war – Derrick Van Orden seems to think public sympathy for an AI family can replace any meaningful action to support actual service members and their families.

For example, instead of posting AI videos of children with 8 fingers, Van Orden could speak out against Trump fundraising off the deaths of service members, or call out the White House for thoughtlessly joking about the war as if it were a video game. Again, instead, he just reposts.

War is devastating, and it’s disheartening to see a veteran refuse to stand up to the president and his administration while they blatantly disrespect military families.

WORST TAKE: Why do people care about gas prices?

This week in messaging that will definitely work for Van Orden: “Gas prices were high under Biden so why do people care that they’re high under Trump?” I have an answer! It’s because both Van Orden and Trump campaigned on lowering gas prices. And more importantly, these price spikes could have been predicted. Prices rose as soon as the Trump administration started an illegal war with Iran, which Van Orden fully backs. So yes, people care because they were promised relief – especially as they struggle to afford other everyday living essentials such as rent and groceries – and instead they’re paying more at the pump because of Trump’s and Republicans’ reckless overseas agenda.

Sincerely,

DVO’s Whine Club
