WHINE WEDNESDAY: Van Orden’s Twitter Use Wrapped

Welcome to Whine Wednesday with Derrick Van Orden, America’s fiercest keyboard warrior. We comb through the hundreds of tweets DVO posts during a week so you don’t have to. Grab a glass and join us for Whine Wednesday!

MADISON, Wis. — Van Orden has had quite the head-spinning week as evidenced by his 217 tweets. From reply guy behavior to cheering on the war in Iran, you can find all the highlights (or lowlights) of Van Orden’s online presence this past week below.

DVO’S DADDY OF THE WEEK: Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District

Van Orden got hit with a harsh reality after last week’s major Democratic Supreme Court victory. Not only did Chris Taylor win the race by a blow out, but she CARRIED WI-03, winning the district by 21.5 points. Van Orden seems to think it’s just a turnout problem, and if he keeps that up, he’s up for another rude awakening in November.

Listen, a lot can happen in 7 months — maybe in some miraculous way, Van Orden will win back the trust of his constituents, but that doesn’t seem likely. This is not just a one off election — people are pissed, and it’s hard to motivate people to vote for you when your failures landed you at the top of the largest city in your district’s most disappointing things of 2025

REPLY GUY: Van Orden’s Weird Obsession with Harmeet Dhillon

Derrick Van Orden, a notorious reply guy, seems especially fixated on Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon. He’s constantly replying to her posts or tweeting at her — and, unsurprisingly, getting absolutely nothing back. Van Orden has tweeted at her around 20 times since she got her position as AAG, and still has received nothing in response. These are just two from the last week:

So what’s the deal? Maybe it’s just admiration, or maybe a little more than that, or maybe it’s another painfully obvious attempt to convince himself (and everyone else) that someone in Trump’s world knows he exists. Either way, it’s a little too reminiscent of your weird uncle in the comments of an AI bot or woman he does not personally know on facebook.

WORST TAKE: The war is creating world peace

This week, Van Orden’s delusions have somehow reached new heights. He’s still out there insisting the war in Iran is going incredibly well, brushing off its growing unpopularity as nothing more than “Trump Derangement Syndrome” in the media.

It’s a pretty bold strategy for a swing-district congressman whose own constituents overwhelmingly oppose the war. The latest Marquette poll shows 61% of Wisconsinites don’t support it — and the skepticism isn’t just coming from Democrats. Even among “non-MAGA” Republicans, support sits at just 28%.

At this point, it seems like Van Orden (or whoever’s calling the shots) knows he’s in serious trouble. So instead of adjusting course, they’re letting him double down, cozying up to Trump as much as possible and leaning fully into a reality that’s increasingly out of step with the voters he’s supposed to represent.

THAT’S NOT TRUE DERRICK

Van Orden seems to be having a hard time accepting last week’s election results (thanks for not storming the capitol this time), claiming that the reason Republicans lost big was because they just didn’t show up to vote. Partially true, but there’s probably a reason behind that, like maybe voters are unhappy with Republican policies that have caused gas prices to soar, ICE raids in communities, and a loss of access to affordable health care. Maybe these actions, all of which he has endorsed, weren’t much of an incentive for his constituents to show up and vote to support an extreme Republican agenda.

To make matters worse, Van Orden said he did everything to show up to for his district, claiming he is either in DC working or back home talking to constituents, and to that I just have to say this:  Did Derrick suddenly forget that he took a European vacation just a week out from the election while TSA workers were going without pay during the GOP-led partial government shutdown? But sure man, it’s ONLY a turnout problem.

Sincerely,
