MADISON, Wis. — Van Orden has had quite the head-spinning past two weeks as evidenced by his 139 tweets. From doubling down on his support for Trump to blaming the media for the cost-crisis, you can find all the highlights (or lowlights) of Van Orden’s online presence this past week below.
DVO’S DADDY OF THE WEEK: Trump
This week, Van Orden has made it very clear he is standing tall behind Trump (not sure we ever needed clarification after that State of the Union handshake video, our regular readers know the one), and he doesn’t care what his constituents think. Even though Trump has reached new lows in approvals, Van Orden has taken a different approach than many of his Republican colleagues in competitive districts who are distancing themselves from Trump, and instead is letting everyone know that he has asked Trump to come campaign for him in Wisconsin.

At the end of the day, it seems like Van Orden has a fundamental misunderstanding about his district. Is he aware that he represents one of the most purple districts in the country and that about half of his constituents didn’t vote for Trump? And outside of just that, does he know just how unpopular Trump’s war in Iran that he fully backs is across the political spectrum? But hey, guess it frees up some time for Twitter, because standing behind Trump’s every decision means Van Orden doesn’t have to spend time coming up with bipartisan solutions to benefit his constituents.
BLAME GAME: MEDIA IS TO BLAME FOR LOW APPROVAL
It’s no secret that costs are up, it’s feeling harder and harder to get by. And what answers does Van Orden have for this? It’s just because the “media is rooting against America.”

Really? I guess it is the media that is causing diesel to hit record highs, not the war in Iran that Van Orden continues to support. How could we be so dumb! Seriously though, Van Orden is just being lazy at this point. He won’t take any accountability for this cost-crisis he voted for, he just points fingers at anyone but himself (and of course, Trump) for the economic pain Americans are feeling.
WORST TAKE: “I DON’T WORK WITH SHADY PEOPLE”
This week, Van Orden had an exchange with a veteran, where the veteran was upset with congressional Republicans and Van Orden told him to “put up or shut up,” and you can see for yourself how that went over here:

There is a lot to unpack here, but we just have to laugh at Van Orden claiming he doesn’t work with shady people. Maybe we have different definitions of “shady,” but we (and we’d argue most Wisconsinites) would call a convicted felon, the world’s first trillionaire, and disgraced Republican representative Max Miller shady. And what do ya know, they’re all funding his campaign!
GAS? GROCERIES? GRANDKIDS?
It’s pretty well documented that Derrick Van Orden ran his 2024 campaign on gas, groceries, and grandkids. So, with record high diesel prices, let’s take a look at Van Orden’s 2026 midterm messaging:

Yeah, he’s got nothing. He broke his promises to his constituents, so he’s fearmongering about some communist boogeyman to try and distract voters from his record of betraying Wisconsinites.
