Wisconsin Republicans Would Help Donald Trump “Terminate” the Affordable Care Act
MADISON, Wis. — In the 14 years since the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, Wisconsin Republicans haven’t let up their attempts to repeal the landmark legislation, leaving Wisconsinites to face higher costs and potentially lose coverage without ACA protections.
Here’s a reminder of how Wisconsin Republicans have repeatedly attacked Wisconsinites’ health care:
- Derrick Van Orden has long campaigned on repealing the ACA, with his campaign website today calling for the full repeal of the law that has enabled over 220,000 Wisconsinites to gain access to affordable health care coverage this year.
- In 2020, Derrick Van Orden said “the last vestiges of the disastrous Obama Care must be removed, and the free market must set prices.”
- Bryan Steil called the Affordable Care Act, which ensures over 800,000 Wisconsinites with preexisting conditions have access to health care, a “disaster” and a “failed policy.”
- For 14 years, House candidate Roger Roth has fought to repeal the Affordable Care Act, even leading a resolution to support a Republican lawsuit challenging the ACA.
- Congressional candidate André Jacque has worked to make health care less accessible in Wisconsin, voting against Medicaid expansion that would extend health care coverage to 89,700 Wisconsinites.
“Donald Trump came within one vote of repealing the Affordable Care Act last time around, and Wisconsin Republicans like Derrick Van Orden, Bryan Steil, Roger Roth, and André Jacque are eager to help him try to gut our health care again,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Haley McCoy. “The Affordable Care Act has been a lifesaver for millions of Wisconsinites in the 14 years since it became law, but its fate hangs in the balance in November. The only way to protect our health care is to reelect President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats who will stop Republican attacks on our care in their tracks.”
