WisDems Celebrate Earth Day

MADISON, Wis. — In honor of Earth Day, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:

“The Democratic Party of Wisconsin is proud to celebrate Earth Day, a day of education and action to protect our environment that was founded by Wisconsin’s own Senator Gaylord Nelson 53 years ago today. The threat of climate change has never been more dire, but our government  has never been more assertive in responding to the crisis, all of which underscoring the need for the important conversations that Earth Day brings.

“Earth Day changed the way we think about our planet and our essential role in preserving it. Grassroots environmental movements coalesced behind Earth Day, with their activism leading to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of landmark environmental legislation like the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. Today, thanks to the leadership of President Biden, Senator Baldwin, and Congressional Democrats, we have a new cause for celebration in the Inflation Reduction Act—the most significant legislation in U.S. history to tackle the climate crisis.

“We are endlessly grateful for the leadership of Wisconsin’s Native Tribes, the original stewards of our land who continue to defend our environment today, and for leaders like Senator Nelson who brought global awareness to this critical fight. It is our responsibility now to carry on their fight to preserve our environment for future generations, and today we recommit to that work.”
