MADISON, Wis. — In honor of the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler and Milwaukee County Supervisor Caroline Gómez-Tom released the following statements:
Milwaukee County Supervisor Caroline Gómez-Tom:
“Latine (Hispanic) Heritage Month is the time of the year to learn about, honor, and celebrate the Latine Community in the United States. While we celebrate, I want to encourage my fellow Latines to remember your cultural roots and embrace your Latinidad. Only you can share what makes you authentically Latine and genuinely you, so be heard, take up space, and bring people with you. By building space for yourself, you are making room for our community.”
Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler:
“Today, we’re proud to honor the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month and kick off a month-long celebration of Wisconsin’s diverse Latino and Hispanic communities. At the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, our Latino Caucus and Latino Coalition work every day to uplift Latino voices, taking inspiration from remarkable Latino leaders past, present, and future—like the late Juan José López; Representatives Marisabel Cabrera and Sylvia Ortiz-Velez; and the rising next generation of Latino leaders all over Wisconsin. We know that Latino and Hispanic Wisconsinites have shaped our state and our country for the better, and this month we are honored to celebrate their contributions as we continue to work toward a stronger and more equitable future for our state.”
