Wisconsin Democrats on Anniversary of Dobbs Decision
MADISON, Wis. — On the second anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:
“Two years ago, Americans were viciously stripped of the protections of Roe v. Wade. Donald Trump and his anti-abortion Republicans unleashed chaos as they wrenched reproductive freedom from millions of people across the nation and left women without control over their bodies. In the wake of this destruction, a swell of voters flooded the polls and demanded their freedoms.
“Now, the fight has extended beyond abortion to IVF. Republicans intend to use executive, legislative, and judicial power to further restrict the reproductive freedom of American families in every state—red, blue, or purple. In refusing to pass Senator Tammy Baldwin’s legislation protecting IVF access, Republicans have drawn their line in the sand. If Donald Trump gets another term, he and his allies will stop at nothing to infringe on our fundamental freedoms and pass a nationwide total abortion ban. We know what they want. The next president of the United States will likely have the opportunity to name two Supreme Court justices and we have all seen firsthand the pain caused by partisan appointees set on furthering a right-wing agenda and rolling back the rights of women. We will not allow it to happen again.
“Reproductive rights are on the ballot in every single race. All eyes are on Wisconsin once again and voters know they hold the key to freedom’s victory over extremism. Through reelecting President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Senator Baldwin this November, as well as flipping House and state legislative seats downballot, we have the power and the responsibility in Wisconsin to restore and protect the freedoms of every Wisconsinite and every American so that no American will know fewer rights than the generations before them.”
