WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: Wisconsin Leaders Praise Biden, Democrats for Passing Inflation Reduction Act

Sen. Tammy Baldwin: “While every member of the Wisconsin Republican Congressional delegation stood with big drug companies and billion-dollar corporations, Democrats are fighting inflation and delivering some relief for working families.”

MADISON, Wis. – After President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law, advocates and elected officials from across the state praised President Biden and Democrats in Congress for passing this historic legislation which will lower prescription drug and energy costs, confront the climate crisis, and ensure that corporations and the wealthy finally pay more of their fair share.

While Democrats took on and defeated special interests to deliver for American families, Ron Johnson and the WisGOP continue to side with Big Pharma, Big Oil, and their wealthy donors at the expense of working families across the state.

Here’s a look at what Wisconsinites in every corner of the state are hearing about how Democrats have once again delivered for their communities with the Inflation Reduction Act – and how every single Wisconsin Republican voted against it:

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison: “The earth is trying to send us a signal that folks, y’all need to do better. We’ve got to do something to address this, and this bill does that. We’re going to see lower energy costs across the country because many families are going to save hundreds of dollars on average, less emissions from our homes, more affordable renewable energy.”

Gov. Tony Evers: “From creating good-paying jobs to helping folks afford rising costs to combating climate change, the Inflation Reduction Act is a win for Wisconsin. Thank you, President Biden, Senator Baldwin, Representative Gwen Moore, Representative Mark Pocan, and Representative Ron Kind for supporting this landmark legislation.”

Sen. Tammy Baldwin: “The Inflation Reduction Act will invest in the production of Made in America clean energy that will create jobs, take on the climate crisis, and lower energy costs for Wisconsinites. While every member of the Wisconsin Republican Congressional delegation stood with big drug companies and billion-dollar corporations, Democrats are fighting inflation and delivering some relief for working families.”

Rep. Gwen Moore: “President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law! This legislation will lower your costs and make historic investments in clean energy, creating jobs and fighting climate change.”

Rep. Mark Pocan: “This is a huge deal. Only one party is focused on putting people over politics, and this legislation is just the latest example of how stark that contrast is.”

Rep. Ron Kind: “This historic legislation will put people over politics and cut kitchen table costs for Wisconsinites by combating inflation and lowering health care and energy prices – all while reducing the deficit.”

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler: “Thanks to the leadership of President Biden and Democrats in Congress, Wisconsinites are going to save money on everything from prescription drugs and health care to home energy costs – and families making under $400,000 a year won’t pay a penny more in taxes. We’re going to make sure that Wisconsin voters know that every single Wisconsin Republican in Congress sided with Big Pharma by voting against capping insulin costs and fighting inflation.”

Wisconsin State Journal: “Biden signs ‘final piece:’ Democrats cross finish line on health care, climate change.”

AARP Wisconsin: “AARP Wisconsin thanks Senator Tammy Baldwin for supporting this critical legislation and moving one step closer to real relief for seniors. The Inflation Reduction Act includes key AARP priorities that will go a long way to lower drug prices and out-of-pocket costs.”

Wisconsin Conservation Voters: “This is truly a momentous day. The Inflation Reduction Act is huge and historic, and is the strongest climate legislation in U.S. history. This legislation charts a path forward to reduce climate pollution in the United States by 40 percent by 2030, boost clean energy and energy security, and lower costs for families. Today is a historic victory – it promises a better future for our children and for generations to come.”

Clean Wisconsin: “This is a critical step toward building a cleaner, healthier future for all of us. The bill paves the way for Wisconsin communities to be part of the climate solution, directing funding into conservation, agriculture, energy efficiency, and clean energy manufacturing programs that support good jobs, strong communities, and responsible land stewardship. This historic investment represents the urgent, aggressive action we need to take on the climate crisis and make a difference in people’s lives here in Wisconsin.”
