WisDems Statement On Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s Upcoming Trip to Wisconsin To Campaign for Tim Michels

MADISON, Wis. — In response to Tim Michels’ decision to bring radical Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin to Wisconsin in a last-ditch effort to win over voters, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:

“It’s fitting that Tim Michels would invite Glenn Youngkin to Wisconsin right before Halloween. Youngkin is an extreme right-wing Republican who parades around Virginia disguised as a moderate, but who has recently spent time campaigning for election-denying candidate for governor in Arizona, Kari Lake and other ultra-MAGA Republicans that support archaic abortion bans. It makes sense that Wisconsin would be next on his list.

“Despite attempts to mimic Youngkin and conceal his radical agenda, Tim Michels will drag Wisconsin backwards. Michels has called Wisconsin’s abortion ban ‘an exact mirror’ of his position and proposed a flat tax policy that would benefit rich people like Michels, his family, and Glenn Youngkin. Michels and Youngkin have another thing in common – using their campaigns to attack public education and teachers. Michels supports an education plan that would decimate public schools by slashing funding for education, raising property taxes, and using students and teachers as political pawns while stoking division in the classroom. Michels even went so far as to suggest increased funding Wisconsin public schools was ‘the definition of insanity,’ and that he would consider abolishing the Department of Public Instruction as governor.

“Glenn Youngkin campaigned as a moderate but quickly moved to the extreme right – and Virginians are paying the price. Wisconsinites will reject Tim Michels’ and Glenn Youngkin’s radical agenda come November 8.”
