WILL & Zignego Family Dig Deep for Dan Kelly

MADISON, Wis. — According to campaign finance filings released last night, parties tied to the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty and the Zignego family continued to funnel resources into Dan Kelly’s campaign.

In 2019, Kelly initially recused himself from hearing a case brought by WILL and plaintiff Timothy Zignego demanding hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin voters be purged from voting rolls. Later in 2020, Kelly then reversed his recusal and agreed to hear the case—after accepting $20,000 in contributions from members of the Zignego family.

Also in 2020, Kelly accepted more than $14,000 in contributions from WILL board members.

Now, Dan Kelly is back at it, accepting more than $20,000 from members of the Zignego family, and more than $32,000 from members of WILL’s board this cycle.

$20,050 from members of the Zignego family: $5,000 from David J. Zignego; $2,500 from Louis R. Zignego; $2,500 from Matthew Zignego; $5,000 from Paul R. Zignego; $2,500 from Robert M. Zignego; $2,500 from Scott A. Zignego; and $50 from Ronald J. Zignego.

$32,500 from WILL’s President and Board of Directors: $2,500 from Mike Grebe; $7,500 from James T. Barry; $20,000 from Michael H. White; and $2,500 from WILL founder and president Rick Esenberg.

“For years, Dan Kelly has made no secret of his ties to the extremist Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty and its plaintiffs, and Kelly’s latest campaign filings lay bare how deeply intertwined he remains with these special interests,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund. “From serving on the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty’s advisory board, to collecting campaign checks from its founder and star plaintiff’s family, there’s no doubt that Dan Kelly would be a rubber stamp on the Supreme Court for dangerous litigation attacking working people, public education, and voting rights here in Wisconsin.”
