REMINDER: Anti-Abortion Brad Schimel Sued to Enforce Abortion Restrictions

MADISON, Wis. — In a recent appearance on right-wing radio, Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel attempted to paper over his extreme, anti-abortion record—even insisting he “never made any statement regarding the 1849 abortion ban.”

In fact, Schimel reportedly identified himself as “firmly pro-life” as recently as last month, telling an audience in Appleton that Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban was valid state law.

Brad Schimel’s anti-abortion record is prolific. As Wisconsin’s worst Attorney General, Brad Schimel wasted millions of taxpayer dollars on a right-wing lawsuit in an attempt to enforce new restrictions on abortion access signed into law by former Governor Scott Walker. His presence on the Wisconsin Supreme Court would mean attacks on women’s rights from the highest levels of law in the state.

“Brad Schimel is an extreme, right-wing politician determined to force his anti-abortion agenda on Wisconsinites,” says Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund. “Brad Schimel has a long record of fighting to enforce restrictions on abortion access that put patients at risk, and there’s no doubt he would pursue a total abortion ban on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.”
