MADISON, Wis. — Today, the news broke that California bank owner Eric Hovde (R–Laguna Beach) is planning to demolish a historic Wisconsin institution.
After years of attempted efforts, Hovde is razing Silver Dollar Tavern, which opened in Wisconsin in 1933 and is the oldest family-owned bar in Madison. Wisconsin patrons who call the bar their neighborhood spot have only a few months left to “focus… on what this place has meant to… the community” before California Hovde tears down this beloved Wisconsin dive bar to make himself wealthier.
“There’s nothing more out-of-touch with Wisconsin values than a rich out of state guy spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to demolish a beloved neighborhood bar. Maybe if Eric Hovde spent more time in Wisconsin and less time at his $7 million mansion in Laguna Beach, he wouldn’t tear down Silver Dollar Tavern just to make a quick buck,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Arik Wolk.
